Remark: | All specimens illustrated and the specimen illustrated in Kraay 1962 (Series IV, 26, Plate II.7) are from the same obverse and reverse dies. The combination of obverse oriented to the left and reverse oriented to the right is characteristic of Type 2.12. However, the reverse of this type is characterized by the double dotted and solid exergual line, and by the circular incuse. The reverse of these fourrées, however, has a simple dotted exergual line and a square incuse, which corresponds to Type 3.13d. |

Remark: |
This specimen is difficult to identify, which is especially true for the obverse. In the image above, the probable legs of the dismounting rider and the front legs of the horse are outlined in blue. However, these front legs of the horse are oddly non-anatomically terminated, so it cannot even be ruled out that they are in fact the legs of the dismounting rider with feet. In any case, this corresponds to the orientation of the obverse to the right. However, if we turn the obverse by 180 degrees, the horse’s rump, hind legs and tail can be seen on the right part of the obverse (see the blue oval above). This would correspond to the orientation of the obverse to the left. The identification of the reverse is also problematic. Its left and lower parts suggest a square incuse, which would correspond to Type 3.13d. However, the upper part of the reverse does not correspond to this and is more reminiscent of Type 3.7c. |
